RBI operates several facilities at Georgia Tech for internal and external customers. This includes our newly opened Multiphase Forming Lab.
Research Services Team
The RBI research services team oversees all activities related to research services for both Georgia Tech and external customers. Testing services include Chemical Analysis; Corrosion; Paper, Board and Box; Pulp Analysis; Recovery; and Multiphase Forming. The multidisciplinary capabilities of the team make it uniquely qualified to address customers' technical needs in the areas of process and product development, and quality control. Our professional scientists and engineers work together to provide information and offer solutions required by a rapidly changing market. Where appropriate, research services personnel will involve RBI faculty and other staff experts to arrive at the best possible solution.
Services
Chemical Analysis Testing
The activities of the Chemical Analysis Group range from routine testing services to research. Some specific areas of experience include machine deposit, evaporator scale and product contaminant chemical characterization; wood, pulping liquor, pulp and paper chemical analysis; product defect analysis; and methods development.
Corrosion Testing
Research activities of the Corrosion and Materials Chemistry Research Laboratory (CMCRL) are focused on corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, high temperature oxidation, and other forms of environmentally induced degradation of metallic materials.
Paper, Board, and Box Testing
Paper, Board and Box Testing at RBI has over 5600 square feet of lab space dedicated to address any paper, board, corrugated board/box and specialty product testing needs in areas of strength, optical, surface, and structural properties.
Pulp Analysis Testing
The Pulping and Bleaching group at RBI has well-equipped laboratories for testing and analysis of raw materials and pulps.
Recovery Testing
RBI has the following testing opportunities: Black Liquor Evaporate Scaling Facility, Portable Fouling Test Unit, Viscometers, Laminar Entrained Flow Reactor and Model Char Bed Reactor.
